When to Have DECK-O-SEAL (Mastic) Replaced

DECK-O-SEAL (Mastic) When the DECK-O-SEAL around the pool’s perimeter is cracked, has gaps, or is missing, it’s time to be replaced.

DECK-O-SEAL -- most commonly known as Mastic -- goes around the perimeter of your swimming pool between the deck and coping. A spot repair of the mastic is not recommended because not only will the new mastic not match the old due to curing, but it will also not be as effective.

If you have a gunite pool that does not have a cantilever deck (where the pool deck spills over the edge into the pool), there will be coping around the perimeter of the pool. The DECK-O-SEAL acts like a seal between the pool coping, preventing water from going between them. Mastic expands and contracts, making it the preventative for water going between and pool and the decking.

When replacing the DECK-O-SEAL around the pool perimeter, it must all be done at one time. If not applied correctly, it can be sloppy and uneven. Sterling Pool Service has over thirty years of removing and installing pool mastic.
